Tomorrow is the anniversary of the Miracle on the Hudson, when US Airways Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and First Officer Jeffrey Skiles ditched their stricken Airbus A320 in the Hudson River. My college overlooks the Hudson, and I was sitting in my dorm room avoiding homework at the time. I remember hearing sirens, which was a common occurrence in the city, but didn’t realize anything unusual happened. Then I logged onto Facebook and realized oh crap, that’s happening a half mile from where I am. I ran the short distance to the waterfront but the passengers/crew were already taken off and the aircraft was surrounded by boats (it being about an hour after it happened).

Oh well, so much for watching history unfold!

Was the same day my brother-in-law was laid to rest. I remember coming home from the cemetery, someone turned on the TV and the scene of passengers being helped out of the plane showed up immediately.
